About Me

My Story

Hi, I am Suzy and would like to share a little bit about myself.

I studied Mathematics at the University of Manchester and after obtaining a BSc Hons in Mathematics  I gained a position in the new technology department of a major financial institution in the Big Smoke. Here I employed my logical and mathematical mind in the real world of business.

I enjoyed a successful career in the corporate world and discovered I had a flair in sharing, nurturing and developing understanding and beliefs, ending up as a Senior Brand Manager.  It was here that I coined the phrase   Brand is the perception of a product, the delivery of a promise and the fulfilment of an expectation.  A phrase I hope will become synonymous with MathsAddsUp.

I enjoyed my ten years in the corporate world which gave me the opportunity to travel the world, but I had a draw to education and an innate desire to teach.

In 2002 I made a life changing decision, I left my comfortable corporate life, and retrained as a Maths Teacher, a decision I have never looked back on.

Not long after beginning this new path, my newly married life took me to Spain.  Not to be thwarted I applied my business acumen and set up my own business in the unfamiliar world of home-schooling and tutoring. Within a year I was full time with a waiting list!

Six years later my husband and I returned to Oxfordshire with three children in tow.  I missed the dynamics of a classroom so returned to mainstream teaching where I now enjoy working with classes and seeing them excel.  I am head of KS4 in an outstanding state school and have gained exemplary exam results year on year.

My success I believe, is due to my passion for both teaching and maths.  My enjoyment of teaching is second to none.  The pleasure I gain when I see the students’ faces light up on their understanding reinforces my teaching philosophy   “DON’T STOP until they’ve GOT”.  Though I love mainstream teaching, the class sizes are becoming restrictive and prohibitive, and this is where the brain child of MathsAddsUp was born.
